So as I said the weather has truly been amazing throughout our trip, but alas all good things must come to an end. Around 10p.m yesterday evening as we were all tucked in our hammocks ready for bed the sky set to rolling with lightning to follow. Being our first time dealing with rain we did the natural thing and freaked out. After around 30 minutes we got our tarps up and set in for the long haul. The storm was miserable it started at around 11:00 p.m. and lasted till about 5:00 a.m. with a steady down pour throughout. We did make it through the night, but there was little to say for getting sleep. We rustled out of bed around 6:15 a.m and made way for our first stop in town Hiawassee, GA. We booked the 5 mile journey in around 2 hrs and were lucky enough to meet our old friend Razor the RidgeRunner who was nice enough to offer a ride in to town (11 miles west) so we didn't have to hitch. And as they say, surrounded by restaurants and lodgings, the rest is history for today at least.
No time for joking.....ha. |
Ed trying to scare me during the storm. |
"And they said it stormed last night" too beautiful to believe. |
We walk by too many streams, fishing is always on my mind. |

Great pics and posts brother...especially like the pic of the morning after the storm.
ReplyDeleteGreat pics and what's up with Brooks ankle is he OK. Have a great time can't wait to see what happens next.Do you guys have trail names yet?
ReplyDeleteHa, yes fortunately Brasky is recovered though we still are all having some physical injuries pestering us....guess it comes with the territory ha. And Yes, we did come up with some trail names: Me (Abby Normal), William Alsobrook (Brasky), Ed Haaga (Jax). Not too many thru-hikers so we typically go by our real names but to other hikers we stick to our trail names. Hope all is well!
DeleteRobert, your glasses are cracking me up!! Love all the posts- keep them coming when you can !
ReplyDeleteAmy!
DeleteHa, yeah believe it or not I didn't want to spend the money to get my glasses fixed before the trip. I Bear Grylls'd them up though, and luckily the contacts stopped giving me trouble so I'm not looking as dumb on the trail. Love you guys, tell Laynie I said HIIII!
