The Appalachian Trail- (D.41, 26.1 mi)

(Iron Mtn Shelter --> Damascus, Va) (466.9 mi total)

Today was a bittersweet day.  We did what we would have originally thought impossible (around 27 mi for the day w/ extra walking) and got a marathon day, but it would also be Jude's (Jax-->Ed) last day hiking.  He balled out though and got to Va.  The day ended in intense knee/ankle pains but finally we made it to the road and hiked straight to Quincey's Pizza on Main St.  We would end up going their 2 more times in the span of 20 hours.  We showered up and checked out what Demascus has to offer on a Saturday night.  Dot's Tavern/Grill  was pretty empty so we felt obligated to drink a beer and not be rude for making the lady stand up out of her chair.....intense place.  Within the hour we were back at Quincey's and then back in bed....too tired to make effort it seems.

"You can't make it 27 miles Abby!"  Get out of my head cow.....and ear rings are only cool on the left ear.

"Is this right here good?", "I just want to look good....."

Michael and calf in a stare down......

TN/VA State Line!!! Finally out of TN, now only 500 miles in Virginia ha.

Damascus, Va.  Sight of Trail Daze....like Bonnaroo for hikers..... you wouldn't think it could get smellier than those festivals either.

Unlike most marathons, our's ended with a pizza for ourselves and coke's.  Job well done!

Jude relaxing in his hammock after a long day in "The Place", the hostel we stayed at.
