The Appalachian Trail- (D.36, 14.5 mi)

(Clyde Smith Shelter --> Overmountain Shelter) (382.7 mi total)

Today we were excited because we would go through some very cool territory and also we had heard very good things about the Overmountain Shelter.  Roan Mtn. was today......the climb was pretty intense and at some point I broke away from Jude.  I finally make it to the top, drenched in sweat, and let out a triumphant scream establishing my manhood.  Ha, what I didn't realize is that the parking lot access to the mountain (lame) was right around a set of trees.  Needless to say the elder couple sitting only 30 feet away in the trees thought my scream was pretty impressive and asked me to sit down and talk about the trail.

Grassy Ridge, really cool place and we caught it at a great time.  Jude should be a butt model.

Infinity Field.....kinda like the pool.

White Blaze art, love the brightness of the field verse the sky.

Can you spot the difference in the animals?  Hint: ones a big a$$ dog.

Jane's bald.

Overmountain Shelter, really cool place.... this is just the lower level.  Larry is on the left (far) and thru-hiked in 1970.  (Jude is looking at the view on the bottom picture)

Our new found friend showing his patriotism.

The view you get to go to sleep to and wake up with from the lower level of Overmountain Shelter.  Really one of the coolest places I have ever slept.
