The Appalachian Trail- (D.39, 10.5 mi)

(Kincora Hostel --> Watauga Lake Shelter) (426.8 mi total)

Let me start by giving you a sad story.... Laurel Falls Shelter was on the itinerary for the day and we had been looking forward to jumping in.  However, we had heard a couple weeks back and about every day since then that a Father & Son had recently been found dead here after taking a break while hiking.  I guess the fall on the left creates a whirlpool and the son got sucked in and the father jumped in after him (still had shoes/socks on).  They were from Louisiana and were just out on vacation, so we were sad to hear about this and wish their family well.  Sorry about that, just felt obligated to tell you.  Other than that the falls were beautiful and as you can see people still swim their (crazy).  We made it to Watauga Lake (da hood of da A.T.) and stayed at the shelter, luckily dodging the two hobo's that we found sitting in the dark by themselves.

Jude creepin' on the river.

Watauge Lake doesn't look too sketchy from 2,500 ft up ha.

Sunset at Watauge Lake.
